How to care for your Borith products

How to care for your Borith products

Handmade products made with simple, natural ingredients need a little care to stay at their best. These easy habits help your balms, creams and soaps last longer and feel lovely right to the end.

The golden rules for everything

Do

  • Store in a cool, dry cupboard or drawer.
  • Keep the lid closed tightly after every use.
  • Use clean, dry fingers or a small spatula.
  • Write the date you opened it on the jar, and check the label for storage guidance.
  • Patch test on a small area of skin first, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Don’t

  • Leave products in direct sun, on a windowsill or in a hot car.
  • Store them in a steamy shower or next to the stove or a heater.
  • Dip wet fingers into a jar.
  • Let other people dip into your jar.
  • Keep using a product that looks or smells different from usual, or that irritates your skin.

Tallow balms: balms to cleanse and body balms

Luxe Sanctum, Rose Éclat, Luxe Naked, Silken Grace, Velvet Bloom and Golden Hour are made with grass-fed tallow and oils, and contain no water. Their main enemies are heat and light.

Do

  • Keep them somewhere cool so they stay firm and creamy.
  • Warm a small amount between your fingertips before you use it.
  • With a balm to cleanse, start with dry hands on dry skin, then add warm water.
  • Put the lid back on straight away. The amber glass helps protect the balm from light, so keep it in a cupboard.

Don’t

  • Leave them in the sun or a hot car. They will melt, and oils tend to age faster in heat.
  • Let water drip into the jar.
  • Scoop out balm with a used cotton pad or damp fingers.

If your balm softens in hot weather, leave it somewhere cool to set again. The texture may change slightly, but it is still the same balm.

Body cremes and soufflés

Pink Cloud and Choc Orange Truffle are rich in shea and cocoa butter. Bergamot Melon, Lumina and Night Repair contain water-based ingredients such as aloe vera, so they need a little extra care.

Do

  • Use a clean spatula or very clean, dry fingers, especially with Bergamot Melon.
  • Keep the lid tightly closed.
  • Check the label for how long to use it after opening.
  • Keep them in a cool cupboard in summer.

Don’t

  • Let them get hot, or freeze.
  • Dip wet hands into the jar, as water in the jar spoils a creme faster.
  • Leave them in a steamy bathroom.

Shea butter that melts and sets again can feel slightly grainy. That is only a change in texture, but if the smell has changed, do not use it.

Lip balms

Do

  • Carry your lip balm in a bag or a cool pocket.
  • Keep the cap closed tightly.
  • Apply with a clean finger or straight from the tin.

Don’t

  • Leave it in a hot car or a sunny window. Coconut oil and beeswax soften quickly in warm weather.
  • Share your tin with others.

Tallow and clay soaps

Do

  • Let the bar dry between uses. Use a draining soap dish or the soap saver bag.
  • Keep it out of the direct spray of the shower.
  • Store spare bars in a cool, dry cupboard.

Don’t

  • Leave a bar sitting in standing water. It will turn mushy and wear away fast.
  • Leave it in direct sun. Natural colours and scents can fade.
  • Be surprised by small colour differences between batches. Clays, turmeric and charcoal are natural, so every batch is a little different.

In short

Keep it cool, dry, closed and clean, and your Borith products will stay at their best.
